Description
We are seeking a skilled Protection Engineer responsible for the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of power system protection schemes. The role involves close coordination with telecom and network teams to ensure seamless integration of teleprotection, SCADA, and RTU systems while meeting strict performance requirements such as latency, jitter, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Configure, test, and commission protection relays from leading OEMs such as ABB/Hitachi, Siemens, GE, SEL, and Toshiba
Perform secondary injection testing, logic verification, and functional testing using industry-standard equipment (e.g., Omicron, Doble, SVERKER, Megger)
Conduct simulation and fault testing for:
Line Differential Protection
Distance Protection
Transformer Protection
Busbar Protection
Verify CT/VT polarity, wiring integrity, and relay configurations
Prepare and execute FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) procedures
Validate performance of teleprotection interfaces (C37.94, G.703, Ethernet-based)
Review and update relay settings, logic diagrams, and protection scheme drawings
Coordinate with telecom and SCADA teams during integration and commissioning
Troubleshoot protection relay and communication issues at site
Prepare detailed test reports, relay configuration files, and as-built documentation
Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Strong understanding of:
Power system protection schemes
Teleprotection and communication interfaces
SCADA and RTU systems
Substation automation systems
Hands-on experience with protection relays from major OEMs
Proficiency in using secondary injection test kits
Familiarity with telecom performance parameters (latency, jitter, reliability)
UAE Driving License (Mandatory)
Experience
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in protection engineering
Proven experience in relay configuration, testing, and commissioning
Experience performing FAT, SAT, and site commissioning
Strong troubleshooting experience in protection and control systems
